Frances and her fiance wed on October 21, 2017, in her family backyard in Greenville, South Carolina. Read more about Frances and her fiance’s beautiful day.
My fiancé and I met in college. I entered as a freshman when he was finishing up his senior year. I was in a relationship, and he was about to graduate, so we became acquaintances and that was that. Three years later, spring of my senior year, we reconnected at the local rock climbing gym. We were both living in Greenville, working in local churches, playing music and had lots in common. The rest was history. We started dating summer of 2015, got engaged May 13, 2017, and were married in October of 2017. Now we live in Atlanta and work at a church together.
I am a really neutral person, so I knew that I wanted a really natural feel to the day. We went with greens, grays and whites, with copper accents for our colors. The ceremony was outdoors in my childhood front yard at 10:30 in the morning. I didn’t want it to be a backyard picnic with burlap and mason jars, and I didn’t want it to be a boho either. I ended up feeling like a whimsy, fairy princess which was pretty awesome.
My favorite memory of my wedding day was a special song. I wrote a song for my husband that our musicians played as I walked down the aisle to him. The walk was pretty long and I couldn’t see him for most of it. When I turned the corner to walk the main aisle and faced him, that was the best moment ever. My second favorite memory is a little silly. I have a 14-year-old yellow lab named Bean. She made a guest appearance at the reception. I was seated, eating brunch, and watched her slowly make her way up the bridal party table receiving handouts and getting her picture taken. After that, we made our rounds to all the tables for photos and more cinnamon rolls. It was her best day ever too, and she was quite the hit.
When I started looking at dresses, I thought I wanted long sleeves. I went into the dress-try-on experience convinced that I would leave with a long sleeve dress for my perfect fall wedding. Leslie, my consultant, picked a dress for me to try, based on all the other ones that my sisters, mom, and I had chosen. I put it on and loved it. I loved the bodice and thought the back detailing was beautiful. I didn’t have that “moment” like I thought I would. I just knew that this was a dress I felt really confident and beautiful in, and that I would be really happy with it.
