Real Bride Spotlight: Palmer

Updated: Mar 13, 2020

Palmer and Carlyle were married September 30, 2017 at the Waterfall Club in Clayton, GA. Read more about Palmer and Carlyle’s beautiful outdoor wedding.

Carlyle and I both attended Georgia Southern University but we never officially met until after Carlyle graduated and during my final semester. Carlyle came back in town to visit some friends and asked me on a date to play golf at the Georgia Southern golf course. For anyone that knows the game of golf, being together with someone for 4 straight hours on a first date can go one of two ways: amazing or terrible. Fortunately for us, it was amazing! It didn't take us long to realize our relationship was something special and one that would last a lifetime. Carlyle and I both love the mountains and in October 2016 we planned a fun weekend trip to Highlands, NC. Little did I know, Carlyle had a special surprise in mind. The first evening there, October 28th, we headed up to Sunset Rock to watch the sunset over the town of Highlands. As I was laying out our blanket on the rocky mountainside, I turned around to find Carlyle down on one knee. Of course, I said yes! To top it off, he had our families surprise us for lunch the following day. It was an incredible weekend to say the least.

The overall theme of our wedding was rustic elegance. Our venue was set in the mountains, overlooking Lake Burton in Clayton, GA. Our ceremony was held outside on the garden terrace with a beautiful view of the golf course and mountain range. The reception was held in the Lodge and on the Burton porch that overlooked the lake. We chose greens, pinks, and creams as our primary colors to tie in the rustic elegance of the lodge and outdoor ceremony location. Our bridesmaids wore "Dusty Rose" bridesmaids dresses from Wedding Angels and the Groomsmen wore black tuxes with light green, golf themed, cummerbund sets from Vineyard Vines. These colors compliment each other well and our florist did an incredible job of incorporating our design ideas, theme, colors, and lighting beautifully. After months of planning, we really enjoyed experiencing how everything finally came together for our special day.

One of my favorite memories from our wedding was anxiously and excitedly awaiting, at the top of the hill near our ceremony, to walk down the aisle with my dad. As we rounded the corner at the end of the hill I remember seeing Carlyle's face light up at the end of the aisle and the feeling I felt at that moment is something I will never forget. The entire ceremony was absolutely perfect and each little moment will be cherished forever. Our entire wedding day could not have gone more smoothly. We are incredibly blessed to have had our family and friends there to help us celebrate our marriage. Our reception turned out to be the one of our dreams. From the food to the cake cutting, toasts, amazing band, and dancing the night away, we had an absolute blast with everyone! We took in every moment that we could and it was a weekend we will never forget.

The dress I chose was the third of eight that I tried on at Wedding Angels. Every time I tried on a different dress I kept thinking about my dress and compared all of them to it. I was instantly drawn to the beautiful lace work across the chest, back, and all down the dress. The off the shoulder with a little bit of sleeve look was stunning and I couldn't help but fall in love with the way it looked and felt. My mom and I knew that it was the one from the moment I put it on. It turned out absolutely beautiful on our wedding day!

I was referred to Wedding Angels through two of my friends and I'm so glad they sent me your way! The staff were very helpful, nice, and knowledgeable. Shelby helped me pick out my dress and she did an amazing job of helping us find the perfect veil and belt to coordinate with the dress. The veil looked as if it were made for the dress. The fittings process was stress free and easy. The alterations turned out great and the dress fit like a dream. The bustle broke during our wedding reception which caused some minor damage to the bottom of the dress. Wedding Angels took care of the minor repair for us and we were so pleased. I also got my bridesmaids dresses through Wedding Angels and they turned out to be beautiful. All and all we had a great experience and really appreciated the help from Wedding Angels!
