Real Bride Spotlight: Megan

Updated: May 16, 2019

A real-life Allie and Noah, Wedding Angels Bride Megan and her husband Brendon had a quintessential southern wedding in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Read more about their beautiful love story below!

Brendon and I met in middle school when we went on a mission trip to Biloxi to help rebuild homes after Hurricane Katrina. Brendon came back into my life many years later and we finally decided to give the relationship a try.

About a-year-and-a-half into dating, he planned a trip to take me to Paris. I just knew he would propose there, but he didn’t. He proposed in front of our family the night before we left. He helped my son (who is now 5) decorate a pumpkin and tied the ring to the pumpkin beforehand. It was perfect.

We got married at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, SC (where The Notebook was filmed) and really tried to maintain that classic Southern vibe. We thrifted for a year to find mixed-and-matched china plates and brass candlesticks. Our colors were all neutrals with some accenting blush tones.

It’s hard to chose just one favorite memory from our wedding day. Our day was perfect and everything we hoped for.

During our reception, Brendon grabbed me by the hand and we walked out to the back of our venue and onto the cotton dock where we shared a few quiet minutes alone. We talked about how amazing the whole day had been and were able to see inside our venue and watch our guests having a blast. We just sat there together for a few minutes and took it all in. It was a really special moment.

We live in Augusta, but my bridesmaids wanted to go to Atlanta to shop for their dresses. We picked their dresses out and the girls surprised me by taking me to Wedding Angels. I was so excited to try on gowns! We pulled up and I saw the jacket piece of my dress in the window and knew I had to try it on. Buying the dress was one of the easiest parts of the whole process.

I loved that my dress was three different pieces. It’s simple yet classic with the crop top giving it a trendy twist! Everyone loved it and I had one look for the ceremony and one look for the reception! I am super excited to wear the top pieces with a pair of nice pants for our first anniversary!

We loved Wedding Angels. Gail greeted us like we were family and made me feel so comfortable. I knew I was trying to be careful with the budget and she helped me find a sample skirt to piece with the tops which made the look fit into our budget. She made us  all feel so comfortable and of course, we enjoyed the champagne! The other employees stopped in and gushed over the dress, which made me feel so special! It was perfect.

My advice for other brides would be to get the dress you want! Don’t be afraid to try to new things and don’t have your mind set on one style - keep an open mind. I would have never thought I’d end up in a crop top for my gown. Slow down and enjoy the moment. Soak it all in!
