Real Bride Spotlight: Allyson

Updated: Mar 13, 2020

Real Bride Allyson and her husband Brian had a beautiful, winter wedding that was all about the details. Read more to hear how they incorporated vintage brooches and Brian's family Scottish tartan into their special ceremony!

Brian and I got married in Tybee Island, GA on February 7th. I saw the venue online and knew that was where I wanted to get married. The wooden beams that lined the ceiling are so beautiful in photos and in person!

I have always wanted a winter wedding because I love deep, rich colors. I chose hunter green and gold as my colors and the groomsmen had ties made from my husband's family Scottish tartan. My bouquet (and the bridesmaids' and mother bouquets) were made by my mother from antique/vintage brooches that we collected over the few years between meeting Brian and our wedding day. It was a true labor of love and they are still so beautiful!

I have two favorite memories from my wedding day: seeing my husband happy crying at the end of the aisle as I walked down to an acoustic version of a song by his favorite band ("First Day of my Life" by Bright Eyes) and dancing with my big brother to John Legend's "It Don't Have to Change"... my two sisters and mother joined in at the end for a big group hug/dance. Tears all around!

I saw my Hayley Paige dress on Pinterest and just KNEW I had to try it on. I found out that Wedding Angels carried it and made my appointment. I worked with Christine and told her that was my dream dress, but I wanted to try on other dresses first so I wasn't comparing them to THE dress. After trying on a few gorgeous dresses, I tried on the Londyn gown and knew that was my dress. I cancelled my other bridal gown appointments and bought my dress and veil that afternoon! My mother also found her MOB dress that day at Wedding Angels in the most beautiful shade of blue.

As for my dress, the Hayley Paige Londyn gown had a matching veil, but my Wedding Angels consultant Christine and I agreed that it was a LOT of veil for someone my height. She showed me the custom veils and when I saw the monogram veil option, I gasped! Being a southern girl, I just knew I had to have that one. It was beautiful and is one of my favorite wedding accessories.

The dress is super poofy with lots of tulle and the alterations team at Wedding Angels were able to create a custom bustle that was easy to use and looked beautiful on the dance floor! I've even had people comment on my social media pictures of my dress about how well the bustle was done!
